For anyone buying, specifying, or manufacturing European-standard cranes, this is not some distant hypothetical. These changes will affect what gets delivered, how it gets certified, and who can sell to European buyers after early next year.
prEN 15011:2025 — What Changes for Bridge and Gantry Cranes
The prEN 15011:2025 draft covers bridge and gantry cranes — single girder, double girder, and gantry types up to any capacity. It replaces EN 15011:2020 and introduces updated requirements across several areas that matter for day-to-day crane purchasing decisions.

For existing crane operators, the new regulation does not require retroactive compliance for cranes already in service. However, if you are planning a major modification — capacity upgrade, control system replacement, or structural retrofit — the modification itself may trigger compliance with the new standards, depending on the scope and risk assessment.
Industry Outlook: What to Watch Through 2027
Several developments will shape the compliance landscape over the next 18 months:
- Harmonized standard list updates. The European Commission will publish updated lists of harmonized standards under the Machinery Regulation. prEN 15011 is expected to be on the initial list, but the timeline depends on the CEN/TC 147 review process.
